Discussions about how to battle future pandemics through better buildings are becoming commonplace, and the goal of improved interior environments is one aspect that dovetails with sustainability issues championed by the AIA Committee on the Environment. Architects continue to raise the bar on performance, design and flexibility. This ongoing dedication to improving the built environment translates easily to addressing the new concerns raised by the coronavirus; limiting viral transmissions will be another layer of the puzzle rather than a complete impediment to new development. This year’s Top Ten projects again offer inspiration, vision and the hope that we can tackle this latest crisis while also turning the tide of climate change.
