Design in the Hills 2011 was our first year, featuring tours and presentations of local Built Environment design projects. Rapid City was undergoing a revitalization of the downtown area, and we toured the construction site of the new Main Street Square, which would become the heart of Downtown.
The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks had the Outdoor Campus West was also under construction, creating a significant facility combining Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design facility for the Black Hills.
The group also toured the Black Hills Bronze Foundry & Prairie Berry Winery.

Black Hills Bronze foundry has since closed, but provided bronze casting for many local sculpture pieces, including the Presidents in downtown Rapid City. 
Prairie Berry Winery near Hill City – another great example of close collaboration between the design disciplines: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering. 
Lunch – it’s a big deal at Design in the Hills!
